Mucho se ha hablado durante los últimos años acerca de la llamada transformación digital, y es que este concepto, desde sus primeras concepciones hasta la actualidad, nos ha puesto de cara ante una verdadera revolución tecnológica cuyas aportaciones han afectado de manera positiva a todas las industrias, sobre todo en términos de agilidad y eficacia.

¿Qué es una fábrica de software?

La gama de soluciones digitales que puede desarrollar una fábrica de software es prácticamente ilimitada, sin embargo, tomando en cuenta su oferta y la demanda de las organizaciones destacan las siguientes:

Sin importar el tipo de solución por desarrollar, las fábricas de software se caracterizan por mantenerse en permanente comunicación con sus clientes para que las soluciones desarrolladas cumplan con sus objetivos reales.
Software a medida
Una fábrica de software ─como ya se ha mencionado, pero vale la pena recalcar─ debe priorizar el desarrollo de software a medida. Esto es un desarrollo de soluciones digitales diseñadas a partir de la visión e ideas o bocetos de los clientes, las cuales deberán ser transformadas en plataformas o aplicaciones funcionales que se adecúen a sus procesos mediante una planeación cuidadosamente definida.
En este punto vale la pena aclarar la diferencia entre el software empaquetado (software de caja) y el software a medida:
• Software empaquetado: tipo de software estándar que se adquiere listo para su instalación y uso (videojuegos, aplicaciones de ofimática, sistemas operativos, etc.).
• Software a medida: tipo de software que se desarrolla de la mano con la organización que lo requiere para responder a sus procesos específicos.
Además, el software a medida tiene como objetivo simplificar los procesos que utilizan las organizaciones para mejorar su productividad y, por ende, brindarles un valor añadido que garantice el éxito de sus operaciones.
¿Cómo funciona una fábrica de software?
Aunque cada cliente es completamente diferente y sus necesidades varían mucho entre sí, las fábricas de software necesitan regirse por una metodología que encamine sus procesos de manera estratégica para obtener los máximos niveles de eficiencia y entregar resultados en el menor tiempo posible.
A grandes rasgos, la metodología de una fábrica de software consta de seis etapas que conforman el llamado ciclo de vida de desarrollo de software: análisis, diseño, desarrollo, pruebas, implementación y mantenimiento.
Análisis
En la primera etapa es necesario analizar la problemática presentada por el cliente, conocer el modelo de negocio de éste e identificar sus áreas de oportunidad en relación con el software a desarrollar o actualizar.
Diseño
En la segunda etapa del proceso se comienzan a materializar los resultados del análisis mediante la definición de la arquitectura y demás elementos que darán funcionalidad al software.
Desarrollo
Posteriormente, una vez identificadas las necesidades reales del cliente y habiendo proyectado su solución, se trabaja en el desarrollo del software. En esta fase se crea la estructura de la aplicación o plataforma solicitada mediante programación de código.
Pruebas
Una vez finalizada la etapa de desarrollo, es preciso probar la funcionalidad del software. En caso de presentar fallas o identificar obstáculos en la experiencia de uso, se llevarán a cabo los ajustes necesarios para cumplir con las expectativas del cliente y garantizar una experiencia óptima.
Entrega o implementación
Una vez que se verificó que el software no presente ninguna falla en su funcionamiento, es momento de entregar o implementar ─según sea el caso─ el software para que el cliente compruebe su funcionamiento.
Mantenimiento
En caso de que así se haya acordado con el cliente, la fábrica de software proporcionará un servicio de mantenimiento a la solución implementada, lo que garantizará su correcto funcionamiento durante una mayor cantidad de tiempo y permitirá la constante actualización de sus características.
